Quadient Inspire to PSL Page Builder Conversion

Many print and mail shops run Quadient Inspire mostly for print and PDF output. If that's you, we can move those jobs to Jetletter PSL Page Builder, prove the output matches, and automate them so they run hands-free.

Who this is for

Quadient Inspire is a powerful enterprise platform built for omnichannel, interactive and compliance-heavy communications. Some shops use all of it. Many use a small part: a handful of recurring jobs that read a data file and produce print-ready PDFs, statements or letters, plus a few reports.

If most of your Inspire work ends up on paper or in a PDF, a print-focused engine like Jetletter PSL Page Builder may fit your shop better. You keep code-level control, you can own perpetual licenses outright, and the jobs plug straight into the automation you already run. Compare the two side by side.

What we convert

Each Inspire Designer project is saved as a WFD workflow file that bundles the job's data inputs, data processing, layouts and output settings. We rebuild every part in PSL:

  • Data inputs. Delimited files, fixed-width files and database sources, moved to CSV or straight ODBC connections into SQL Server.
  • Data processing. Calculations, lookups and record selection, rebuilt in PSL or moved upstream into SQL Server or PowerShell where they're easier to maintain.
  • Layouts. Pages, fonts, images, tables and charts, rebuilt in PSL Page Builder's design interface.
  • Logic. Conditional content, versioning and page selection, rebuilt with the Condition Manager, Dynamic Content Management and the PSL language.
  • Postal elements. Address blocks, IMb barcodes and presort order, using PSL's Address Box and native barcodes.
  • Outputs and reports. PDF output, file naming, counts and the reports your team and clients rely on.

How a conversion runs

  1. Inventory. We document every WFD: inputs, fields, scripts, layouts, conditions, outputs and schedules. See the inventory checklist.
  2. Plan. We decide what moves into PSL, what moves upstream into SQL or PowerShell, and what to simplify.
  3. Rebuild. We build the PSL projects and their data preparation. How the logic translates.
  4. Parallel run. Inspire and PSL run the same live data. We compare record counts, page counts, PDFs and postal elements until they match. How we test.
  5. Automate. Jobs run from .PJB project files, hot folders or SQL Server Agent, so nobody has to open them. More on SQL-to-press automation.
  6. Cut over and train. You switch production to PSL with a rollback plan in place, and your operators learn the new projects.

Why convert with MhetaData

  • We sell, support and train on PSL Page Builder. You get one team for the software, the conversion and the automation around it.
  • We know mail. Our CEO started in the mailroom in the late 1980s and spent decades training mailing companies. Address blocks, barcodes and presort order are checked the way a mail shop checks them.
  • We automate as we go. Converted jobs come out cleaner than they went in, with data preparation in SQL Server or PowerShell and output that runs on a schedule or a trigger.
  • You keep Inspire running until the new jobs are proven. Nothing is switched off until the parallel run passes.

When to stay on Inspire

If your work depends on email, SMS or other digital channels, business users editing content in Inspire's interactive tools, or Quadient's archive and compliance features, Inspire may still be the right platform. We'll tell you if that's the case. Signs a print-focused tool may fit better.
